Moving to Mount Laurel: Schools, Important Information and Community Events

If you are deciding to purchase real estate and move into Mount Laurel, New Jersey, this is a great place to find information on community events, phone numbers, demographic information and schools.

New Residents moving to Mount Laurel

When you are in the process of moving into your new home in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, there are a few places and departments that you should be in contact with in order to set up your utilities.  In Mt Laurel, residents use PSE&G for their electric.  They can be reached at 1-800-436-7734 to setup a new account.  For water and sewer, the Mount Laurel Utilities Authority can be reached at 856-234-0062 and residents are billed Quarterly. For cable and internet, Mount Laurel is in the process of getting Verizon Fios, but in the meantime we have both Comcast and Dish Network.

Prior to moving into your new home, you should contact all of these companies at least 48 hours before settlement to ensure that your utilities have been changed over and ordered.  Also, there are two main newspapers that can be subscribed to, Burlington County Times and The Courier Post.  For snow emergencies, the Snow Desk Hotline can be reached at 856-996-0302 and there are typically 20 plus plows at a time throughout the township removing snow during snowstorms.

Demographics and School Districts

The demographics of Mount Laurel, New Jersey is always changing and the best place to get the most up to date information is here. As of the most recent census the population was just over 41,000 residents composed of 55% married couples with families. There are 22 square miles that cover Mount Laurel with many parks including the famous Laurel Acres Park which hosts the annual Fall Festival attracting over 15,000 people.

The school district that your children and teenagers will go to is part of the Lenape Regional School District.  For students attending K-8, you can visit the Mount Laurel School District Center located at 330 Mount Laurel Road, or contact at 856-235-3387.  There are 4,290 students in these grades led by 420 certified staff members.  For high school students, Cherokee High School will be the school that 9-12 will attend, as part of the Lenape Regional School District. In 2010 and 2011, Mount Laurel School District was awarded the “Best Overall Employer in New Jersey” and the school districts are a part of the prestigous Blue Ribbon School District.

Neighborhoods and Community Events

There are several great neighborhoods to live in, including, some of the most popular condo complexes: Madison Place, Essex Place, Le Club and the Lakes as well as other great Single Family Home Developments including: Willowmere, Stonegate, and Laurel Creek. In addition, there are several local community events. Every year in Mount Laurel, you can expect great fireworks, the annual fall festival, as well as contests and fairs.  There are several volunteer activities including Brothers and Sisters and Habitat for Humanity.  Many of the residents participate is as many programs, activities and community events as possible.  If you are new to the neighborhood, there are many gyms, sports clubs and other events to sign up for.  Being active in the community will help you and your family see why Mount Laurel is such a great town!
